Best Time To Visit Tanzania

The dry season which occurs from June to October is considered the Best Time To Visit Tanzania for wildlife viewing. During this time, animals gather around the water holes and the vegetation is less dense making seeing wildlife a lot easier.

The most iconic event on the earth: The Great Wildebeest Migration also occurs between July and September in Serengeti. However, this is also the busiest time of the year and prices tend to be higher. In contrast, if you want to have a quieter experience, the low season from December to May can be a wise choice with fewer crowds, lower prices and lush green scenery.

Ultimately the best time to visit Tanzania is completely based on your priorities and what kind of experience you want to have. With our range of Tanzania Safari Packages that are fully customizable, you’ll be able to have a safari here anytime you want!

“The best time to visit Tanzania – A balance of both the dry and green seasons.”
The weather in Tanzania

Tanzania has one dry season and two rainy seasons.

The best time for a visit is during the dry/high season from June to October.

During the high season, the weather remains dry and clear.

During the low or green season, the weather remains cloudy with afternoon thunderstorms.

Although, in coastal areas, the weather remains warm throughout the year.

“Tanzania Weather – Hot and tropical with distinct wet and dry seasons.”
Best Time to See Great Migration

The best time to see the Great Wildebeest Migration is during the dry season between June and September. Generally, the migration occurs throughout the year at different times and locations. From December to March, the great herds can usually be found in Tanzania’s Serengeti, especially in the Ndutu area. The lush green pastures make it an excellent time for predator sightings as well. Between July and September, the herds come across the most thrilling journey of life and death, the Mara River Crossing. This is the most awaited time of the great migration that almost everyone will want to experience.

“Mid-July through mid-September is the best time to see the great migration — plus the chances of witnessing a river crossing are much higher.”

Jombi’s camp was exceptional and very enjoyable. The attention to detail was amazing and the camp fire was a great touch.
